Food pantries, housing and utility assistance response focus
The first of Phase 1 grants from the Marshall County COVID-19 Community Response and Recovery Fund at the United Way of Marshall County were awarded April 10, 2020, to food pantries and organizations providing housing and utility assistance to families and individuals impacted by COVID-19. United Way, in partnership with the Marshall County Community Foundation, is working with a network of businesses, educators, faith-based and disaster relief organizations, nonprofits, and volunteers to address immediate and urgent needs. The grants total an initial $22,250 in funding to local nonprofits responding to the pandemic and providing direct assistance to impacted households.

Food pantries throughout Marshall County will receive the funds to help them restock their shelves and continue their important services. Some food pantry directors in requesting Phase 1 grants are reporting a 50 – 75% increase in households coming to their food pantries for the first time.

As lay-offs and furloughs from employment continue to rise, providing this aid to households is imperative to help keep individuals and families safely in their residences. The Phase 1 housing and utilities assistance will be made in collaboration with township trustees and other community partners including nonprofits and faith-based organizations.
