Understanding ALICE in Marshall County
ALICE® stands for Asset Limited, Income Constrained, Employed. ALICE households have income above the Federal Poverty Level but not enough to afford the basics where they live.
ALICE is the engine that powers our economy. ALICE workers are typically our child care providers, personal care aides, delivery drivers, grocery store cashiers, and other essential workers we rely on every day. ALICE are our neighbors, friends, or even colleagues.
In Marshall County, 11% of households live below the poverty level with 28% being ALICE. That means over 39% of households in Marshall County are living below the ALICE threshold.
United Way of Marshall County is committed to supporting ALICE families by:
- Access to Services: Connecting individuals with essential services, including healthcare, childcare, transportation, and housing and utility assistance.
- Advocacy: Educating the public and working with local government officials, businesses and our nonprofit partners to address systemic issues contributing to financial instability.
- Impactful Grants: Lifting up our nonprofit partners via our R4 Grants to help address gaps in services and increase the capacity of local organizations to meet basic needs in Marshall County.
We’re taking action so that ALICE can pay monthly bills and breathe easier when setbacks arise.
